ALCAUCÍN

The town to which we belong is located in the Natural Park of the Sierras de Tejeda, Alhama and La Almijara, surrounded by mountains and with a rich fauna and flora. Its location at the foot of The Maroma Peak, which reaches 2060 meters of altitude, thus becoming the roof of the province of Malaga, make Alcaucín, one of the most beautiful towns in the Axarquia.

It is part of the Oil and Mountains Route. The Alcaucín river crosses the town and its sources of water with medicinal properties stand out. There are several hiking trails that leave the town, including the climb to Pico la Marona, with an accumulated drop of more than 1500 meters.

LA VIÑUELA

Known for its swamp, a source of water supply for the entire Axarquia region, La Viñuela also has monuments and archaeological sites. Some of its main monuments are the church of San José or the Hermitage of the Virgen de las Angustias. In its three archaeological sites, daggerboards have been found to store oil and remains from periods such as the Neolithic or Paleolithic.

In its swamp you can perform different active tourism activities such as cycling or water activities. This town is included in the Sun and Wine Route of the Axarquia in Malaga.

Charming towns in Axaquía 3: 20 minutes from the hotel

VÉLEZ – MÁLAGA

It is the capital of the Axarquia and the largest and most populated urban center in the area. This small city houses an old town that has been declared a Historic-Artistic Site. The mixture between its initial Islamic structure and its later conversion by Christian families in the 16th and 17th centuries, makes Vélez-Málaga a very interesting place to walk around and discover its fortress, churches, palaces, monasteries or squares.

The wide gastronomic offer and the Holy Week festival, declared an Asset of National Tourist Interest, make Vélez – Málaga one of the charming towns in La Axarquia and one of the visits that you cannot miss during your stay.

Charming towns in Axaquía 4: 30 minutes from the hotel

ALHAMA DE GRANADA

Going up north, we cross towards the province of Granada and, outside the Axarquia, we find this beautiful town in which the Natural Monument of the Tajos of Alhama stands out. Among its other monuments and places to visit are the Arab Quarter, the Castle of Alhama, different churches and convents, such as La Encarnación, the aqueduct over the Alhama River or the Roman Bridge.

But if Alhama is recognized for something, it is for its thermal waters, which for thousands of years have had a medicinal use. Here you will find the Alhama Health Resort and also different natural pools for free use.

Near Alhama there is also the Pantano de los Bermejales, a very beautiful place where you can do different activities such as hiking, biking or water activities such as kayaking or paddle surfing.

COMARES

In the foothills of the Montes de Málaga. Very marked by its Arab past, like many of the towns in the Axarquia, in Comares stands out the Mazmúllar Aljibe, declared a National Historic-Artistic Monument. Arab arches, towers, the remains of a castle or its Mudejar-style Christian church are other monuments that you can see in this charming town in the interior of the Axarquia.

Known as the natural viewpoint of the Axarquia, the views are one of its main attractions in Comares, being more than 700 meters above sea level. The Mirador de la Plaza stands out, located near the town hall, with spectacular views of the entire Axarquia region.

CANILLAS DE ALBAIDA

Going down through the Natural Park of the Sierras de Alhama, Tejeda and la Almijara and we arrive at another of the most charming towns in the Axarquia, on the southern slopes of the Sierra de la Almijara. Located at the top of a hill, its narrow and steep streets stand out, its white ground-floor houses, with whitewashed walls and colorful interiors.

The rivers, as in all this area, are great protagonists and there are many routes to enjoy hiking and nature. Canillas de Albaida is part, like La Viñuela, of the Sun and Wine Route.
